'quick fire'

I have a fascination for the city. Oprah Winfrey once said, 'My first day in Chicago, September 4, 1983. I set foot in this city, and just walking down the street, it was like roots, like the motherland. I knew I belonged here.' I'm really not a follower of her work or what she does but this is right to the point of how I feel about NYC. I've never been to Chicago, but have always dreamed about going and I think it applies to any individual about their favorite place to visit. The first time I visited New York City in high school I knew it was where I wanted to be. It was one of my dad's favorite places in the world and I have so many memories of me and him from our trip there. I've been back since that trip and every time it's a new leap forward in my journey through life.
Quick Fire Question: When it's 44 degrees Fahrenheit outside, why does one wear Nike shorts and Ugg boots? I understand the purpose of Ugg boots. They're stylish, they keep your feet warm, their insides are super soft, they're pretty, and more importantly, they originated on a beach in Australia. Who knew? Nike shorts consume the average college students daily wardrobe. If I were to count how many pairs I saw everyday I would easily reach numbers in the 50s, if not higher. There are just so many options to choose from. Do I want the green ones with the black netting or the black ones with green netting on the sides? Getting back to my point however, the boots are for the winter and the shorts are for weather other than the cold. Let's put two and two together. Ugg boots and Nike shorts just do not go with one another. They may look okay together but the logic behind it just isn't clear to me.
I tend to quote the fabulous, amazing John Mayer quite a bit. It's just one of those things that you have to get used to.
Despite the awful reviews about John Mayer's new album, 'Battle Studies', I find it rather enlightening. I definitely see where he's coming from on several of the songs. I like it. Yes, I love the jazzy, blues side of him, seen in songs such as 'I'm Gonna Find Another You' or 'I Don't Trust Myself (With Loving You)', but I think this new album has quite a bit of potential.
I took a human geography class this past semester and Dr. Jepson made a statement that got me to thinking. She said, 'Coming into this class, I knew each of you, for the majority, would have your mind set on the fact that you believe that overpopulation is ruining the world. But, I hope that as we sit here together on this last day of class that you now know that yes, overpopulation is a problem, but there is SO much more to it. Quit looking at what's apparent and dig into it.' Needless to say, this was my favorite class last semester. She was also the professor who used quick fire questions.
"All we ever do is say goodbye. I bought a ticket on a plane and by the time it landed you had gone again. I love you more than songs can say. But I can't keep running after yesterday."
Rambling: one of the things I have great success in.

i will follow you

For the past few months I've been wanting to start a blog. I'm a fairly poor writer but there is just something about jotting my thoughts down that makes my day ten times better. There is also something about biology 112 that seems to always get my mind in a knotted mess. In the past 2 months, I can definitely say that I've grown up, a lot. I've been forced to look at things with a whole new perspective. I've been drawn towards and pulled apart from certain individuals, all who have influenced the individual that I am now.

I am going to be a 5th grade science teacher, maybe. My co-workers feel that I seem more like the person who would teach at the high school level. Maybe I can relate to the average high school student more than the 5th grader who still has to be asked whether or not he or she brushed their teeth that day by their parents. After working with certain children at work this semester, I have a new profound admiration for those who work with kids who have behavioral issues.

Word of the Wise: phones should be left on during hours of rest. You never know what kind of event or emergency is going to take place in which you are needed. This occasion has occurred three times to me in the past 36 hours.

I had the honor to dress up as Hamm (the piggy bank from Toy Story) at Kids Klub today. I was a little disappointed in my costume but the kids loved it and they knew exactly who I was dressed up to be. I would call that a success. Some kids know exactly how to take that terrible day that you're having and turn it into the most wonderful beautiful day of all. Others, on the other hand, sometimes do the exact opposite. And as Krista would say "I'm not going to follow any of this new day crap. No choices! They'll do what I say and when I say it!".

signing off,
this is not a blog ... just random stories from a random person.
